Your questions answered

Virtu Health prides itself on been the little guy, we are NOT big pharma, and our practice reflects this, putting the patients’ needs before profits. With Virtu Health, we can guarantee consistency in practitioners and a considered approach to care, we are counsellors after all. Our Google Reviews reflect this!

No referral is required! You can directly reach out to us to book an appointment. We believe in making mental health support as accessible as possible, so we keep the process simple and straightforward.

Our services support adults aged 18 years and over. For individuals under 18, we are happy to provide mental health assessments and medication reviews for standard treatments where clinically appropriate. However, prescriptions outside commonly prescribed mental health medications are only available for patients aged 18 and above.

We offer services for a broad range of mental health conditions, including but not limited to:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia and psychosis
  • Grief and loss
  • Stress management
  • Mood disorders
  • Self-esteem and relationship issues

In short, no. We will prescribe treatments that are most suited to you and your presenting problem. We are brand agnostic, meaning we can prescribe anything that is available in Australia.

We are not aligned with any brand or wholesaler, and do not profit from the medication we choose.

We prefer to send prescriptions to our partnered pharmacies as we have up-to-date information on medications in stock.

It’s important to note if you choose your own pharmacy, they may need to order medication, which can take 1-2 weeks to organise (most pharmacy will only stock one or two brands – this is why they have to order medication from wholesalers which can take time).

However, with our partnered pharmacies, we can address any concerns instantly and ensure a smoother process for you.

To determine your eligibility for Virtu Health Chronic Condition Clinic, we would need to assess your specific health condition and medical history.

To qualify for Virtu Health Chronic Condition Clinic, you must meet the following criteria:

Chronic Condition: Your condition must be chronic, lasting three or more months.

Previous Treatment: You must have tried other treatments that either did not fully alleviate your symptoms or caused undesirable side effects.

Exclusions: History of psychosis or schizophrenia. Cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, or liver disease. History of drug dependence.

No. TGA approval concerns the prescriber rather than the client. When a client visits a new clinic or consults a different doctor or prescriber, it’s essential for the prescriber to secure

TGA approval before prescribing the medication.

  • TGA approvals might take 1-3 business days.
  • We aim to have the medication arrive to the client within 7 business days

Complementary medicine refers to therapies used alongside conventional medical treatment, while alternative medicine describes therapies used instead of standard medical care. In Australia, most reputable clinicians discuss complementary therapies as part of an integrated approach — meaning they are considered in addition to, not in place of, appropriate medical management.

Examples of complementary approaches may include:

  • Nutritional and lifestyle interventions

  • Mind–body therapies such as meditation or psychological support

  • Physical therapies

  • Prescribed medicinal cannabis in carefully assessed cases

When managing chronic conditions — such as persistent pain, anxiety disorders, sleep disturbances or other long-term health concerns — treatment is rarely “one size fits all.” These conditions often require ongoing review, symptom monitoring and adjustments over time. That’s why conversations sometimes extend beyond standard medications alone.

Chronic conditions are discussed in the context of complementary medicine because:

  • Symptoms may fluctuate or persist despite first-line treatments

  • Some patients experience side effects from conventional medications

  • Quality of life and functional goals vary between individuals

  • Long-term management often requires a broader, individualised plan

For example, in certain circumstances, a clinician may assess whether prescribed medicinal cannabis is appropriate as part of a structured care plan. This involves reviewing diagnosis, prior treatments, mental health history, medication interactions and safety considerations before any decision is made.

Importantly, complementary medicine does not mean “unregulated” or “experimental.” In Australia, prescription medicines — including medicinal cannabis — must be prescribed by authorised clinicians under appropriate regulatory pathways.
